STORM SHELTER REBATE FAQ
CAN I RECEIVE THE REBATE IF I HAVE AN EXISTING SHELTER?
No. The program only pertains to new installs only with this program.
HOW MUCH COSTS DOES THE REBATE COVER?
The rebate, once accepted, will only cover up to 75% of the actual cost of the safe room. Up to $2500.00
IF I AM SELECTED, WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
If your application is selected, you will be contacted from his office, once the submission period closes (which is September 3, 2021) .
There are additional steps that will need to be completed.
1: Complete the additional paperwork.
2: Have a saferoom installed on your property following the guidelines you received.
3:Submit the required documentation by the deadline.
Plus addtional steps could be required.
WHAT TYPES OF SAFE ROOMS ARE ELIGIBLE?
Any type of saferoom is eligible for the rebate as long as it meets or exceeds the specifications set forth in the most recent version of FEMA Publication 320 (Taking shelter from the storm) and FEMA 361 (Design and Construction Criteria for Community Saferooms), as well as ICC 500 (Standards for the design and Construction of Storm Shelters).
CAN MORE THAN ONE PERSON IN MY HOUSEHOLD REGISTER FOR THE REBATE?
No. Only one person per physical home address may register.
CAN I HAVE A SHELTER INSTALLED IN AN EXISTING RESIDENCE?
Yes. You may have a saferoom installed in a new or existing home, either in an interior room on the first floor, underground on the first floor, as a detached above-ground or under-ground safe room and within 100 feet of the home. The safe room should be readily accessible to all occupants.
WHAT IF I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX, DUPLEX OR OTHER MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENCE, AM I ELIGIBLE?
No. Apartment complexes, duplexes and other multi-family residences are not eligible for this rebate, as they are considered businesses. This safe room rebate program is for single-family homes only.
CAN I GET TWO SAFE ROOMS INSTALLED, IF I OWN TWO PROPERTIES?
No. If you own two or more homes, you may only register for a safe room rebate for your primary residence.
DO I QUALIFY FOR THE REBATE IF I AM ALREADY ON AN INSTALLERS LIST TO HAVE A SAFE ROOM INSTALLED?
No. If you already have installed a safe room, are having one installed now, or are planning to have it installed at any time prior to receiving notification that you have been selected as a rebate program recipient, that safe room is not eligible for this rebate.
I LIVE IN A FLOOD PLAIN, WHAT SHOULD I DO AND COULD I QUALIFY FOR THE REBATE PROGRAM?
